Mom’s Priority Saving Money Tip: Shopping Consignment

With growing kids, you go through clothes fast!!  Especially when they are babies, you are missing out if you never shop consignment sales.  Because babies grow so fast, some clothes are never worn or worn only once, and are in consignment stores and sales at low prices.

You can also sell your children’s clothing, if they are still in very good condition (click here for good clothes to sell), and make money to go back into the clothing fund, or for whatever you want to spend it on.  Each store and sale has its own rules, and you have to decide how much time and effort you want to spend tagging and pricing items.  When you go through a sale, more effort is involved but you make a little more and the sale’s profit usually goes towards a charity or good organization.  When you go to a consignment store, you make a little less, but they do all the work for you and your items are on the racks for a longer period of time.  I’ve done both, and now I go to the store and simply drop off items to sell in season.  You can also simply donate your outgrown clothes, which we also do.

For a list of sales, this is a wonderful site.

Kids’ Devotionals for Easter

Easter is coming soon, and a devotional book in my mind is such a precious gift to give your children! We USED to be in a great habit of reading our devotion in the mornings before school as the kids ate their breakfast. I CHERISHED that time, and the kids really seemed enjoy it to, too. But, life has become busy and we fell out of the habit. We still have our time at bedtime, but there is just something about starting the day off right!

“In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice…” – Psalm 5:3

We have used a couple of different devotional books, though, that we have truly loved.

Jesus Calling for Kids

Mighty Warrior Devotional Bible

Jesus Storybook Bible

Now, as they are growing up a little, I need to find new age-appropriate devotionals for them that are on their way! And we plan to give them these at Easter and get back in the habit again.

The Great Encourager

I have been told that I am an encourager. I probably see this unmet need in others because I myself need a ton of encouragement to keep moving forward.  We can find that encouragement in friends, in our spouses, but more than anywhere else, in Jesus Christ.  Because He knows just what we’re going through, and He knows just what we need at that moment to continue on the path.  Just as I have, you also can have the Great Encourager speak to you and give you courage, to face your dreams, your fears, and your next steps.  I know for me, the verses, “I tell you, Look at the fields!  They are ripe for harvest!” (John 4:35) and “Cast your bread upon the waters” (Eccl 11:1) and “Whatever you do, work at it with all your might” speak to me especially right now as I’m venturing out on the waters of the unknown.  No person can know exactly what to tell this complicated person that I am, only my Maker can speak perfectly to me.

Jesus speaks powerful words to me each day as I spend time with him through reading the Bible, praying constantly, and making decisions based upon obedience to His truths. If you are confused, or unsure, or looking for the right path, for today or for the future, I encourage you to spend time with Jesus.  He wants you to seek Him more than anything, and you will find satisfaction and peace when you come to Him.

Parenting Resources

Sometimes as parents we get to that point where we need guidance!  We’re out of our own ideas!  Scriptural guidance and prayer is best, and many times advice from an expert helps.  This is just a starting list, but here are a few books that I believe help parents navigate parenting!  Click HERE
