Refiner of Silver

“AMom's Prioritylthough the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; your own eyes will see them.  Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’ ” – Isaiah 30:20-21

For sure, this past week has been one of trials.  I dare call it “adversity” because I know so many people who have REAL adversity going on in their lives, and I do count my blessings.  But things like your computer crashing, jury duty, surgery, an abundance of commitments all crammed into one week, and a favorite family pet passing on…it seems like a little adversity, so I’m trying to learn from it.

Adversity seems to test us in our character, and to refine us into what is more becoming of His Character and image.  This past week was one of those where you feel like, ‘yes!  I’ve made it through that!’, and then another issue comes up!  At our church also, we are going through a season of adversity; hopefully, and prayerfully, God’s purpose is refinement.

“I will refine them like silver and test them like gold.  They will call on my name and I will answer them.” – Zechariah 13:9

So, I pray, if you are going through a season of adversity, that you can see the good that is coming out of it, and not let the negatives bring you down.  “Press on toward the goal” like Philippians 3:14 says, and be confident, as you face your trials, that “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:6

GOOD FRIDAY

He was pierced...Mom's Priority verse of the week

He was pierced for our transgressions…Isaiah 53:5- God’s sovereignty over time- Mom’s Priority

I posted this verse on Monday, and have literally had the song “By His Wounds” by Steven Curtis Chapman, Mac Powell, and Brian Littrell in my head ALL week.  Thank goodness, because I needed it!  Where would I be without Jesus, and the forgiveness, grace, and love he bought with His ultimate sacrifice over 2,000 years ago?  I can’t even imagine.  I reread Luke 23 this morning, and it hurts, to think about the pain and agony Jesus went through so that we could feel His Comfort and HOPE when a loved one passes away or even in the day to day life when we sin and desperately need forgiveness.  We praise God today and always for having the love and foresight to send His Son for us; in humble adoration, we lift up our praises.

Mom’s Priority Saving Money Tip: Get Rid of your Landline

Most likely, the calls you receive at your home phone are telemarketers, and most of your friends and family call your cell phone number.  If that is the case, then consider eliminating your landline, and save around $40 per month- that is close to $500 per year!  Here are some things to consider before you make the switch:

  1. You may need more minutes on your cell phone if you do not currently have an unlimited plan.
  2. Find out how your alarm system is set up.  Some are connected to your landline phone and a phone is required for the alarm to work; however, the alarm companies can connect it to your cellular phone, but they typically charge an increased fee for that.
  3. A traditional fax machine would not work (but an e-fax would)
  4. If you have a bundled provider who also provides your TV service or internet, they may charge you more on the other services when you remove the landline
  5. The 911 issue- if there is an emergency, if you’re calling from your cell phone, your call could be answered by a neighboring 911 center and not your own.  In the event of an emergency, if you are using your cell phone, make sure you ask for your city’s 911 center.
  6. Consider how much your children use the phone, or if they might need one in the event of an emergency, if they do not have their own cell phones.

After evaluating, you might just decide to eliminate your home phone, simplify your life, and save money!
