What is the quintessential scent of summer to you? Is it chlorine from the pool, the smell of kids’ sunscreen, sea spray from the ocean, or the smells of fresh-picked berries, tomatoes, or herbs? For sure, mine is basil. I love basil’s sweet aroma that leaves a stain on your hands when you pick it. Basil is only available in summer as far as I know, and it can be useful in so many dishes!
Making pesto with fresh basil leaves and freezing it in ice cube trays for use later is a fabulous way to savor your basil crop for several months to come.
