Grandparents Day

Grandparents are the best, aren’t they?!!  Grandparents Day is this upcoming Sunday, September 13, and we want our parents and grandparents to know how much we appreciate them!  We’ve created a pinterest board with ideas that we’ve done in the past and others that we’d like to try, just to give you a few ideas so you can make this Sunday a special day to celebrate grandparents!

In the past, I have made the silhouettes for myself and then given them to grandparents, as well as the photo coasters, ornaments, all kinds of handprint crafts, and fill in the blank descriptions of grandparents, which is always fun!  While grandparents day is right at the beginning of the busy fall season, don’t forget the amazing grandparents in your life!  Just a simple call, Skype, or Facetime chat lets them know how much we care.  Check out Mom’s Priority’s Pinterest board for ideas!

Back to School: Top 5 Backpacks for Kids

Back to School Saving Money Tips from Mom’s Priority

It’s Back to School time, and now is a great time to get a deal on a new backpack for your child!  If you buy a quality backpack, you can expect for it to hold up to wear and tear for two to three years!  Mom’s Priority has come up with our top five favorite backpacks for Back to School:

1)  Hanna Andersson
School Deals: 20% off denim, backpacks, unders & more at Hanna Andersson! Valid 7/27-8/16.

Durable, and many styles to choose from including this one:

2)  LL Bean has stylish, affordable, and durable backpacks that will last several years

3)  Another great place to look is Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen.  For Preschoolers through Kindergarten the PB kids’ small size works well to not overwhelm a child, but after that age, the PB Kids large size seems to work better holding the folders that need to make their way home each day.  Pottery Barn Teen doesn’t seem too grown up, and I believe the colorful backpacks would work well for a 7 or 8 year old on up.

4)  Vera Bradley seems pricier, but these bags also hold up very well and can also be used as overnight bags.

5)  North Face bags are durable for school and also for the outdoors.

Back to School: School Supplies

Back to School Saving Money Tips from Mom’s Priority

By now you’ve received your list from the school saying what school supplies your child should try to purchase and contribute for the start of the new school year, and you’re probably making plans to go out to the store and get all of these items.  Considering the National Retail Federation’s 2015 expected spend on back to school and college is expected to top $68 billion(!!) and families plan to spend around $100 for back to school supplies and backpacks, it pays to find ways to save!!  Here are our top tips to save:

  1. Order them online instead and have them shipped to your door for free!!  It is so much more convenient than scouring the Back to School aisles with all the other moms and their kids!  Order online at Walmart.com and Amazon.com, and receive free shipping when you spend over $35.
  2. Shop during the tax free weekend!  16 states are offering a tax free weekend, including Georgia, which is from July 31 to August 2.  You want to make sure that the items you are planning to buy are covered under this exemption.  For Georgia, it includes school supplies, clothing, and computers.
  3. Compare prices and if you can, spread out your shopping timeline.  Stores spread out their deals over the months of July and August.
  4. If you can, wait until after school starts to buy some items.  You can often find deep discounts if you are able and willing to wait.

Summer is in full swing, and if you’re like us, at this point, you’ve relaxed your thoughts on “healthy” snacks, and it may be time for some new ideas.  Keeping our kids fueled with healthy and real foods that are accessible and easy to prepare is an important priority of being a mom.  So, as we’re headed to the pool or playground or ball field, or wherever else, consider these ideas pinned from Pinterest for inspiration HERE.

Banish Summer Boredom

It’s the middle of the summer now, and it seems no matter how busy we are, inevitably I will occasionally hear, “I’m bored!” In

case you have heard these words before too, check out Mom’s Priority’s pinterest page for ideas.

When the kids were Preschool age, the best sanity-keeping idea I had was to have the kids decorate large popsicle sticks and then I numbered them and listed an activity on them that matched up with some project/activity/craft around the house that was pre-packaged and ready to do.  This gave me something to direct them to if they ever said, “I’m bored” or “what can I do”?  Having the whole project kit ready to go made it easier as well, eliminating the frustration of trying to find the items for a certain project!

As the kids have grown, now no one wants to paint popsicle sticks, and I just have a list.  If they get bored, I say, Check the list for ideas!  Truthfully, at this age, we stay so busy that boredom doesn’t happen often!  But, it is nice to have options and ideas, because there are so many things we want to do in summer!
