Seriously Affordable Healthcare

Deadline for Healthcare Open Enrollment is December 15

affordable healthcareYou probably are aware of the December 15 deadline to get healthcare at healthcare.gov.  Maybe you worry about how you are going to be able to pay for healthcare this next year?  If you are looking for an affordable healthcare option, I have a possible solution for you.

This was us last year at this time.  My husband and I became completely self-employed late last year, and we knew we needed affordable healthcare for 2017.  Starting a new business from scratch is not an easy task, and not without costs!  How were we going to afford healthcare on top of that and just living?  This was just one of many concerns I had about this new business venture!

Affordable Healthcare Delivered

Thankfully, someone told us about Medi-Share.  This Christian-based company has been such a blessing to us!  All glory to God for this opportunity to have coverage without spending a fortune!  Where we would spend a mortgage payment or more in health insurance each month for our family through the Obama-era mandate, instead we spent a little more than one month’s worth for an entire year!

Medi-Share is Not Insurance

Now, before you get completely excited, I want to make sure you are aware that Medi-share is not technically insurance and they are not required by law to pay any time.  But, they are legit, and there are scores of people who sing their praises.  They are a healthcare sharing company, meaning that you pay your monthly “premium” and when you have medical bills over your maximum amount, your bills become eligible for sharing.  Other’s premium funds are added together to pay for your bills, essentially.  And, those people PRAY for you.  How comforting it is to know that someone is praying for you when you are going through a huge medical event!  I have had the opportunity to pray for people and even send them a note online, and it is a blessing for both.  This is community, when you help each other in their time of need, through this healthcare expense sharing platform. Here are some resources to explain:

Medi-Share Summary

Medi-Share Details

Drawbacks

While I list out the Medi-Share details in more detail on this page,  I want to say here that Medi-Share is not for everyone.  You need to read all of the details on their page, but if you have a family member with extensive medical needs, Medi-Share is probably not a good fit.  Also, you need to have money saved for the out of pocket expense you elect to pay.  For example, you can go with a lower “premium” and higher out of pocket expense before they share your expenses.  This is similar to traditional healthcare plans.

Positives

When you or your child gets sick, their Tele-health option is fantastic!!  Board-certified physicians are available 24/7 to call you back within the hour typically (after you make an appointment online), and treat you if possible.  They will even call in a prescription to your pharmacy, if necessary.  Sometimes, they tell you to go see your personal physician.  But, for the few times we were sick this past year, they were able to correctly diagnose and treat us over the phone.

They want to help you in your health and fitness goals.  You can schedule consults with a health coach or care manager, and you receive a discount if your family falls into healthy weight category.

I mentioned it before, but they pray with you over the phone!!

Save Money on Insurance in 2018

To find out how we saved over $11,000 in insurance costs this year, I list out more details on how to save money on insurance on this page, including amazingly affordable prescriptions and dental savings with Aetna. If you are looking for affordable healthcare for this upcoming year, make sure you check into Medi-Share.  It is not for everybody, but for many of us, it is an amazing alternative to the health insurance crisis that is going on right now.  So you can live your priorities, I urge you to check it out.
